METHOD OF PRODUCING PARTIALLY HYDROLYZED ACRYLAMIDE POLYMERS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Acrylamide polymers or copolymers are partially hydrolyzed by mixing particles of a hydrous gel of the polymer with an alkaline material in an apparatus which has a mixing mechanism comprising blades having a hole or open space therein and in which the surfaces of the apparatus which contact the polymer are made of, or coated with, a synthetic resin. In this way localized hydrolysis can be avoided and the usual degradation of molecular weight and reduction of quality of the product of the usual mixing methods can be eliminated.
