Abstract The present invention relates to a method of producing plastic comonomers and plastics from fats and oils containing unsaturated fatty acids, crude unsaturated fats and oils being oxidised by performic acid or peracetic acid to give epoxy or hydroxy compounds and the latter being then reacted to give polymers, using bifunctional or multifunctional compounds that are capable of reacting with epoxy or hydroxy groups.
