It is intended to provide a technique of producing a sterile plant by inhibiting the transcription of a gene participating in flower organ formation. A chimeric gene composed of a gene, which encodes a transcriptional factor promoting the expression of a gene participating in flower organ formation, with a polynucleotide, which encodes a functional peptide converting an arbitrary transcriptional factor into a transcriptional inhibitor, is transferred into a plant cell to thereby produce a chimeric protein composed of the above-described transcriptional factor and the above- described functional peptide fused together. As the results of the predominant inhibition of the expression of the gene participating in flower organ formation by the chimeric protein, a male sterile plant which is unable to form normal pollen is produced. The chimeric protein also inhibits the expression of a gene participating in anther dehiscence to thereby give a plant with inhibited anther dehiscence. Furthermore, the chimeric protein inhibits the expression of a gene targeted by a transcriptional factor participating in the formation of stamen and pistil to thereby give a double- flowered plant.
L'invention concerne une technique de production d'un végétal stérile par inhibition de la transcription d'un gène participant à une formation d'organe de fleur. L'invention concerne un gène chimérique composé d'une gène. Ce gène chimérique code un facteur de transcription favorisant l'expression d'un gène participant à la formation d'un organe floral, à l'aide d'un polynucléotide codant un peptide fonctionnel convertissant un facteur de transcription arbitraire en inhibiteur de transcription. Ce gène chimérique est transféré dans une cellule végétale pour produire une protéine chimérique constituée du facteur de transcription susmentionné et du peptide fonctionnel susmentionné, fusionnés ensemble. L'inhibition prédominante de l'expression du gène participant à la formation d'organe floral par la protéine chimérique permet d'obtenir un végétal stérile mâle qui ne peut pas former de pollen normal. Cette protéine chimérique inhibe également l'expression d'un gène participant à une autre déhiscence, pour obtenir un végétal présentant une autre déhiscence inhibée. En outre, la protéine chimérique de l'invention inhibe l'expression d'un gène ciblé par un facteur de transcription participant à la formation des étamines et du pistil, pour donner un végétal à fleur double.
