A process for the production of a polymer of a sulfur-containing aromatic compound, comprising reacting a halide of a sulfur-containing aromatic compound which bears at least one aromatic ring and at least one ring containing one or more disulfide linkages and in which both rings hold one side in common with inorganic sulfur in an amount of 2 to 8 sulfur atoms per mol of the halide in an organic solvent under heating in the presence of at least one inorganic base selected from the group consisting of alkali metal hydroxides, alkali metal hydrogen- carbonates and alkali metal carbonates and/or at least one organic base selected from the group consisting of tri(lower alkyl)amines and heterocyclic amines.

La présente invention concerne un procédé de production d'un polymère d'un composé aromatique sulfuré, ledit procédé comprenant la réaction d'un halogénure d'un composé aromatique sulfuré qui porte au moins un cycle aromatique et au moins un cycle contenant un ou plusieurs ponts disulfure, les deux cycles ayant une arête en commun avec du soufre inorganique en une quantité comprise entre 2 et 8 atomes de soufre par mole d'halogénure, dans un solvant organique en chauffant, en présence d'au moins une base inorganique sélectionnée au sein du groupe constitué par les hydroxydes de métaux alcalins, les hydrogénocarbonates de métaux alcalins et les carbonates de métaux alcalins et/ou au moins une base organique sélectionnée au sein du groupe constitué par les tri(alkyle court)amines et les amines hétérocycliques.
