ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed is a method of producing a tungsten oxide from a concentrate of a tungsten-containing mineral by heating the concentrate to a temperature above the boiling point of the tungsten oxide. This is most advan- tageously accomplished by means of an electric arc heater having a power of about 0.2 to about 5 megawatts and a voltage of about 200 to about 5000 volts. The concentrate is preferably mixed with a fluxing agent to lower the melting point of the co-product.
