The present invention is directed to a method of producing zinc oxide whiskers, wherein zinc powder particles coated with oxide layers are heated in an inert gas so that zinc vapor may be desirably generated. The zinc vapor is then brought into contact with oxygen gas or oxygen-containing gas for oxidization. In this way, zinc oxide whiskers are obtained, each of which has a nuclear portion and four needle-like crystal portions extending from the nuclear portion in four different directions.

La présente invention porte sur une méthode de production de whiskers d'oxyde de zinc, où des particules de poudre de zinc, enrobées de couches d'oxyde, sont chauffées dans un gaz inerte, de façon à produire, si on le souhaite, de la vapeur de zinc. On amène ensuite cette dernière en contact avec de l'oxygène gazeux ou avec un gaz renfermant de l'oxygène pour oxydation. On obtient ainsi des whiskers d'oxyde de zinc, dont chacun possède une partie centrale et quatre parties cristallines en forme d'aiguilles se projetant à partir de la partie centrale dans quatre directions différentes.
