Abstract of the Disclosure A method for producing zircaloy tubes from hollows or workpieces which are in the form of tubes having greater wall thickness than the finished tubes. The method is carried out upon a mill of the general type known as a McKay rocker which has a stationary tapered mandrel, but the mandrel is cylindrical and is moved with the workpiece. The metal is worked in such a manner as to produce radial grain orientation and fine grain structure. Close tolerances are maintained on the outside and inside diameters, and the tubes have high strength and ducti- lity. The grain structure provides increased working life for the zircaloy tubes.
