A method of determining whether a wireless packet data service can be activated in a dormant state. To activate one of a plurality of packet data services in the dormant state, a BS transmits to an MS a Page Message containing an SR ID identifying the service to be activated. If a service instance for the service is unavailable, the MS transmits to the BS a response message indicating that the service cannot be reconnected. The BS then terminates indicating that the service cannot be reconnected. The BS then terminates immediately, thereby saving radio resources and improving system performance.

La présente invention concerne un procédé qui permet de déterminer si un service de paquet de données peut être activé lorsqu'il est dans un état de veille. Afin d'activer un service de paquet de données parmi une pluralité de services de paquet de données se trouvant dans un état de veille, une station de base (BS) transmet à une station mobile (MS) un Message Page contenant un identificateur de référence de service (SR ID) qui identifie le service à activer. Si aucune instance de service n'est disponible pour ce service, la MS transmet à la BS un message réponse indiquant que le service ne peut pas être reconnecté, suite auquel la BS s'interrompt immédiatement, permettant ainsi d'économiser des ressources radioélectriques et améliorer la performance du système.
