The present invention relates to a method of quantitative determination of sodium ions in a sample using .beta.-galactosidase, wherein the .beta.-galactosidase reaction is conducted in the presence of at least one chelating agent selected from the group consisting of 1,2- cyclohexanediamine-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid, ethylenediamine-tetraacetic acid,triethylenetetramine-hexaacetic acid, diethylenetriamine-N,N,N',N'',N''-pentaacetic acid, 1,3-diaminopropan-2-ol-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid, ethylenediamine-N,N'-dipropionic acid dihydrochloride, ethylenediamine-tetrakis(methylenesulfonic acid), imino-diacetic acid, hydroxyimino-diacetic acid and nitrilo-triacetic acid. The method of quantitative determination of sodium ions of the present inventionis useful in clinical examinations and the accuracy in the measurement by the method is high.

Ce procédé permet de déterminer avec une grande précision les ions sodium contenus dans un échantillon en employant de la beta -galactosidase. Le principe consiste en une réaction de la beta -galactosidase en présence de l'un au moins des agents chélateurs appartenant au groupe constitué par l'acide 1,2-cyclohexanediamine-N,N,N',N'-tétra-acétique, l'acide éthylènediamine-tétra-acétique, l'acide triéthylènediamine-tétra-acétique, l'acide diéthylènetriamine-N,N,N',N",N"-penta-acétique, l'acide 1,3-diaminopropane-2-ol-N,N,N',N'-tétra-acétique, le dihydrochlorure d'acide éthylènediamine-N,N'-dipropionique, l'éthylènediaminetétrakis (acide méthylènesulfonique) l'acide iminodiacétique, l'acide hydroximinodiacétique et l'acide nitrilotriacétique. Ce procédé convient particulièrement à l'examen clinique.
