ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This disclosure relates to a new water- based quenching composition comprising polyvinylpyrrolidone, and a method of quenching using the same to quench metals or metal-like materials. This composition may also comprise a rust inhibitor and bactericidal material to enhance per- formance properties, and provides highly satisfactory quenching characteristics such as hardening, low dray out, and the avoidance of undesirable film formation, thus offering unique advantages over other prior water-based quenching materials and techniques.
