Method of stabilizing radium present in radium-containing effluent, in which the effluent and a metal chloride are mixed, then the previously obtained mixture is reacted with a sulfate ion to obtain effluent containing stabilized radium. The chloride can be a barium, strontium or lead chloride. The sulfate ion can be supplied by the addition of sulfuric acid, sulfuric anhydride, soluble sulfate or soluble sulfate salt. The method applies in particular to the treatment of solid radium-containing effluents or effluents containing substances in suspension coming from chemistry or metallurgy of zirconium or treatment of uranium-containing minerals.
Méthode de stabilisation du radium présent dans un effluent radifère, dans laquelle on procède au mélange de l'effluent et d'un chlorure de métal, puis on fait réagir le mélange précédemment obtenu avec un ion sulfate, pour l'obtention d'un effluent contenant du radium stabilisé. Le chlorure peut être un chlorure de baryum, de strontium ou de plomb. L'ion sulfate peut être apporté par l'addition d'acide sulfurique, d'anhydride sulfurique, de sulfate soluble ou de sel de sulfate soluble. La méthode s'applique notamment au traitement d'effluents radifères solides ou comportant des matières en suspension issus de la chimie ou de la métallurgie du zirconium ou du traitement de minerais uranifères.
