The invention relates to a process for separating the surface layer from the core of a piece of wood. During said process, the surface of the piece of wood receives prior mechanical damage, e.g. it is roughened, and subsequently the resultant piece of wood is immersed in water or a water solution until the level of dampness in the surface layer of the wood is at least 30 %. The resultant piece of wood is subsequently steamed at a temperature of from 120 to 160~ Celsius, and the surface layer to be removed is consequently superficially etched to such an extent that it can be detached from the piece of wood in a subsequent stage.

L'invention a pour objet un procédé pour séparer la couche superficielle du coeur d'une pièce de bois. A cet effet, la surface de la pièce de bois est tout d'abord écorchée mécaniquement, c'est-à-dire rendue rugueuse, après quoi la pièce de bois ainsi prétraitée est trempée dans l'eau ou dans une solution aqueuse, jusqu'à ce que l'humidité du bois atteigne au moins 30 % dans la couche superficielle. La pièce de bois ainsi prétraitée est ensuite soumise à un vaporisage avec de la vapeur à une température de 120 à 160 ·C, de sorte que la couche est amenée à se fragiliser à un point tel qu'elle est en mesure de se détacher de la pièce de bois au cours d'une étape suivante du procédé.
