ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of separating evaporable liquids, e.g. oil or water from finely divided solid materials, e.g. drilling mud, oil-wet cuttings and fines, bleaching earth, sludge form oil tanks, oil shale, tar sands, vegetable nuts, soybeans, dates and coconuts is provided herein. The finely divided solid material is evaporated at a lower temperature than with conventional evaporation by breaking down the capillary forces binding the separate fraction in the pores of the finely divided solid materiel in a device known as a friction evaporator.
