ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed is an improved method of recovering a first said from an aqueous solution containing the first salt and a second salt, the first salt having a solubility increasing more with increasing tempera- tures than the solubility of the second salt. The solution is passed through an evaporation zone thereby concentrating the solution with respect to the first salt and precipitating the second salt, which precipitated salt is withdrawn from the evaporation zone in a slurry. In the improved method the withdrawn second salt slurry is introduced into the upper level of an elutriation column wherein the precipitated second salt slurry mother liquor is displaced with a relatively dilute first salt aqueous solution introduced into a lower level of the column, while the second salt crystals are removed from the lower level of the column in a relatively dilute first salt aqueous solution slurry ant while the relatively concentrated first salt mother liquor displaced from the slurry is removed from the upper level of the column for recycle back to the evaporation zone.
