A method of reducing the content of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gases of a rotating cement kiln which comprises the steps of mixing at least one material from the group of reducing agents consisting of urea and ammonium salts with cement kiln dust or kiln raw feed or a component thereof, and introducing the mixture into an intermediate zone of the rotating kiln so that the reducing agents contact the nitrogen oxide in the gas stream which zone has a temperature for efficient reduction.
