ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of removing a gum from a crude vegetable oil containing a gum which comprises stirring a gum containing vegetable oil in the presence of water and contacting the stirred vegetable oil with the surface of a specific porous membrane having a critical surface tension (?c) of less than 33 dynes/cm and having an average pore diameter of 0.05 to 3 µm, whereby the gum contained in the crude veget- able oil is efficiently removed together with the water and a refined vegetable oil substantially free of the gum and water can be obtained with high productivity.
