Abstract of the Disclosure The invention relates to a method and apparatus for reclaiming particulate used activated carbon. A vertical hollow column is provided with at least two horizontal, ver- tically separated electrodes, each being in the shape of a grille having holes large enough to allow the passage of the used active carbon particles therethrough. The particles are continuously introduced into the top of the columns above the upper electrode so that the particles flow down through the electrodes. A voltage is applied between the electrodes so that a current flows through the carbon particle mass located between the electrodes and the heating resulting therefrom causes desorption of adsorbed materials from the carbon particles. By making the current flow in the same direction as the particles in this manner, many of the disadvantages of the prior apparatus, in which the current and particles flow at right angles, are avoided.
