In a method of reinforcing and waterproofing a paved surface, a layer of liquefied asphalt (12) is applied on a paved surface (10). A reinforcement mat (14) is applied over the liquefied asphalt. The reinforcement mat is a nonwoven mat produced from fibers having a melting point above about 320~F (160~C), and selected from mineral fibers such as glass fibers, polymer fibers, or mixtures thereof. The liquefied asphalt penetrates and soaks the reinforcement mat to form a water barrier. A layer of paving material (20) is applied over the reinforcement mat.

L'invention concerne un procédé de renforcement et d'imperméabilisation d'une surface pavée, une couche d'asphalte liquéfiée (12) étant appliquée sur ladite surface pavée (10). Un mat de renforcement (14) est appliqué sur l'asphalte liquéfiée. Ledit mat de renforcement est un mat non tissé produit à partir de fibres dont le point de fusion se situe environ au-dessus de 320·F (160·C), et sélectionné dans le groupe constitué par des fibres minérales telles que des fibres de verre, des fibres polymères, ou des mélanges de celles-ci. L'asphalte liquéfié pénètre et trempe le mat de renforcement afin de former une barrière étanche à l'eau. Une couche de matériau de pavement (20) est ensuite appliquée sur ledit mat de renforcement.
