In a method of reinforcing and waterproofing a paved surface, a layer of liquefied asphalt (12) is applied on a paved surface (10). A reinforcement mat (14) is then applied over the liquefied asphalt. The reinforcement mat includes a first layer (30) comprising a nonwoven mat produced from fibers selected from the group consisting of mineral fibers, polymer fibers, and mixtures thereof. The reinforcement mat also includes a second layer (32) of mineral fibers attached to the first layer. The liquefied asphalt penetrates and soaks the reinforcement mat to form a water barrier. A layer of paving material (20) is then applied a over the reinforcement mat. The first layer and the second layer of the reinforcement mat are attached to each other by any one of sewing, knitting, needling, heat treating, and adhering with an adhesive, or combinations thereof.

L'invention concerne un procédé de renforcement et d'hydrofugation d'une surface revêtue, consistant à appliquer une couche de bitume liquéfié (12) sur une surface revêtue (10). Un mat de renforcement (14) est ensuite appliqué sur le bitume liquéfié. Le mat de renforcement comprend une première couche (30) constituée par un mat non tissé, produit à partir de fibres sélectionnées dans le groupe comprenant des fibres minérales, des fibres polymères et des mélanges de celles-ci. Le mat de renforcement peut également comprendre une seconde couche (32) de fibres minérales liées à la première couche. Le bitume liquéfié pénètre et imprègne le mat de renforcement de manière à former une couche hydrofuge. Une couche de matériaux de revêtement (20) est ensuite appliquée sur le mat de renforcement. La première et la seconde couches du mat de renforcement sont liées entre elles selon l'un quelconque des processus ci-après : couture, tricotage, aiguilletage, traitement thermique et collage au moyen d'un adhésif, ou selon une combinaison de tels processus.
