A method for controlling vertical migration of contaminants in an aquifer includes introduction of a solubilizing solution having a surfactant and an alcohol or other light co-solvent. The surfactant is selected to solubilize the contaminant. The alcohol or other solvent is selected to provide the microemulsion with a substantially neutral buoyance with respect to groundwater. The neutral buyoancy of the microemulsion prevents the normal downward movement which is typical of the solubilized dense non-aqueous phase liquid in surfactant-enhanced a quifer remediation. Thus, the risk that any significant amount of solubilized dense non-aqueous contaminants will migrate vertically can be controlled. The relative tendency for vertical migration may also be reduced by increasing the injection rate or injected fluid viscosity by adding polymer or reducing the well (120, 130) spacing.
Ce procédé de lutte contre la migration verticale de contaminants dans une nappe aquifère consiste à introduire une solution de solubilisation comprenant un tensioactif et un alcool ou un autre co-solvant léger. Le tensioactif est choisi pour solubiliser le contaminant, et l'alcool ou l'autre solvant est choisi pour doter la micro-émulsion d'une flottabilité sensiblement neutre par rapport à l'eau souterraine. La flottabilité neutre de la micro-émulsion empêche le mouvement normal vers le bas, typique d'un liquide dense, solubilisé et en phase non aqueuse, dans une décontamination d'une nappe aquifère, accrue à l'aide du tensioactif. Ainsi, on limite le risque d'une migration verticale de toute quantité importante de contaminants denses, solubilisés et en phase non aqueuse. On peut également limiter la tendance relative à une migration verticale, en augmentant le taux d'injection ou la viscosité du fluide injecté (par ajout d'un polymère), ou en réduisant l'espacement des puits (120, 130).
