A method of removing iron sulfide from oil. Firstly, add water to iron sulfide contaminated oil to create a water- diluted oil. Secondly, introduce an oxidizing agent into the water-diluted oil whereby iron sulfide in the water-diluted oil combines with oxygen from the oxidizing agent to form iron sulfate. The iron sulfate can readily be removed as a precipitate.
