Abstract of the Disclosure The invention is directed to a method for closing and sealing a ceramic container for the long-term storage of irradiated nuclear reactor fuel elements or other radioactive materials. The container includes a vessel having an opening of one end thereof, and a cover adapted to fit on the vessel to close the opening.
