ABSTRACT METHOD OF SEPARATING ISOBUTYLENE FROM A C-4 HYDROCARBON FRACTION (81,027-FB) A two-step method for separating isobutylene from a C-4 hydrocarbon fraction comprising: (a) reacting the C-4 fraction with a glycol in the presence of a catalyst at a temperature of 60°C to 160°C to give a corresponding glycol mono-t- butyl ether, and subsequently (b) reacting the intermediate product over the same catalyst at a temperature of between 100°C and 220°C to produce the isolated isobutylene. The catalyst may be a heteropoly acid on an inert support or an acidic montmorillonite clay.
