The invention relates to a method of separating enantiomers R(-)- and S(+)-5- (2-((2-ethoxyphenoxy)ethyl)amino)propyl-2-methoxybenzenesulphonamide. The inventive method consists in: (a) reacting a mixture of the aforementioned enantiomers with an optically-active organic acid in order to form diastereoisomer salts with the enantiomers, where said diastereoisomer salts have a distinct solubility and can be separated by means of crystallisation; (b) separating the enriched mixture of diastereoisomer salts in the salt of one of the enantiomers; and (c) releasing said salts in order to obtain enantiomer R(-)- or S(+)-. The R(-)-5-(2-((2-ethoxyphenoxy)ethyl)amino)propyl- 2-methoxybenzenesulphonamide enantiomer has an .alpha.-adrenergic blocking activity and can be used as a suitable antihypertensive agent for the treatment of congestive cardiac insufficiency and benign prostate hypertrophy.

L'invention concerne un procédé de séparation des énantiomères R(-)- et S(+)-5-(2-((2-éthoxyphénoxy)éthyl)-amino)propyl-2-méthoxybenzénosulfonamide, consistant (a) à faire réagir un mélange desdits énantiomères avec un acide organique optiquement actif pour former des sels diastéréoisomériques avec lesdits énantiomères, lesdits sels diastéréoisomériques présentant une solubilité distincte et pouvant être séparés par cristallisation; (b) à séparer le mélange de sels diastéréoisomériques enrichi dans le sel d'un des énantiomères; et (c) à libérer lesdits sels pour obtenir l'énantiomère R(-)- ou S(+)-. L'énantiomère R(-)-5-(2-((2-éthoxyphénoxy)éthyl)-amino)propyl-2-méthoxybenzénosulfonamide présente une activité ?-bloquante adrénergique, et est utilisé comme agent antihypertenseur adapté dans le traitement de l'insuffisance cardiaque congestive et de l'hypertrophie prostatique bénigne.
