ABSTRACT A process for separating zinc and copper values from an aqueous solution of copper and zinc salts having a pH of between about 0.5 and 6 is provided comprising: (a) contacting said aqueous solution with the copper salt of di-(-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid to form a zinc- containing organic phase and a copper-containing aqueous phase; (b) separating said zinc-containing organic phase from said copper-containing aqueous phase; and (c) stripping said organic phase to form a solution of a zinc salt and di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid.
