A method of stabilizing a hygral expansion of a protein fiber product which comprises the steps of preparing a water-soluble solution by dissolving a polyoxirane derivative of PEGDE or PPGDE having a water solubility of 95 wt.% or above in a solvent which has a solubility parameter of 13.0-10.1 (cal/cm3)1/2 and a boiling point of 101-190°C and is freely miscible with water, preparing a treatment solution by adding to the obtained solution an aqueous solution containing at least two catalysts for oxirane compounds selected from the group consisting of dicyanodiamide, hydroxy carboxylic acid salts, thiocyanic acid salts and L-cysteines, dipping a protein fiber product in the treatment solution followed by dehydration, cross-linking the dehydrated fiber product with the polyoxirane derivative by heat treating the fiber product, and removing by-products from the heat-treated fiber product. This method serves to stabilize a hygral expansion of a protein fiber product with more certainty and remove difficultly water-soluble by-products formed by the heat treatment.

Méthode de stabilisation de l'expansion hygrique d'un produit de fibres protéiniques, comprenant les étapes suivantes : préparation d'une solution hydrosoluble par dissolution d'un dérivé avec le polyoxirane du PEGDE ou du PPGDE, dont la solubilité dans l'eau est d'au moins 95 % en poids, dans un solvant qui possède un paramètre de solubilité de 13,0 - 10,1 (cal/cm3)1/2 et un point d'ébullition de 101-190.degrés.C et qui est librement miscible avec de l'eau; préparation d'une solution de traitement par addition à la solution ainsi obtenue d'une solution aqueuse contenant au moins deux catalyseurs pour des composés de l'oxirane choisis parmi le groupe constitué de dicyanodiamide, de sels d'un acide hydroxycarboxylique, de sels de l'acide thiocyanique et de L-cystéines; immersion d'un produit de fibres protéiniques dans la solution de traitement, puis déshydratation; réticulation du produit de fibres protéiniques déshydraté avec le dérivé avec le polyoxirane, par traitement à la chaleur; et élimination des produits secondaires du produit de fibres traité à la chaleur. Cette méthode permet de stabiliser avec plus de certitude l'expansion hygrique d'un produit de fibres protéiniques et d'éliminer les produits secondaires difficilement hydrosolubles formés durant le traitement à la chaleur.
