A B S T R A C T Selective sterilization of male anthers of plants, especially of small-grain cereals, without affecting female sterility can be achieved by applying to the plant a compound of formula: Image wherein R = H, alkali(ne earth) metal, ammonium, alkyl ammonium or alkyl. The compounds also cause a marked depression in vegetative growth.
