The invention relates to a method of testing a metallic cryogenic storage vessel before said vessel is put into operation, in which the vessel (1) is filled with water and, if necessary, appropriate measurements are taken. The invention is characterised in that it comprises the following steps consisting in: filling the metallic cryogenic storage vessel (1) with seawater; and providing the metallic base (2) and lateral walls (3) of the vessel (1), which are essentially made from plain steel, with temporary cathodic protection, by injecting an electric current into the anodes which are disposed inside the vessel (1) when said anodes are submerged. It is preferable to arrange a network of first anode(s) (5¿1?) immediately next to the base of the vessel using a support means (5¿2?), preferably with the option of removing said support means (5¿2?) and first anode(s) (5¿1?). In addition, it is advantageous if the first anodes (5¿1?) are disposed along a circle (C¿1?) which is concentric to the centre of the surface of the vessel base and if the diameter of said circle (C¿1?) is between 40 and 75 % of that of the surface of the base (2) of the vessel.

La présente invention a pour objet une méthode de test d'un réservoir métallique cryogénique avant mise en service, dans laquelle on remplit ledit réservoir (1) avec de l'eau et, le cas échéant, on effectue des mesures appropriées, caractérisée en ce que l'on réalise les étapes dans lesquelles : on remplit ledit réservoir cryogénique métallique (1) avec de l'eau de mer, et on assure une protection cathodique temporaire des parois métalliques de fond (2) et latérales (3) dudit réservoir (1) constituées essentiellement d'acier nu, en injectant un courant électrique dans des anodes disposées au sein dudit réservoir (1) lorsque celles-ci sont immergées. Avantageusement, on dispose un réseau de première(s) anode(s) (51) à proximité immédiate du fond du réservoir à l'aide de moyens de support (52), les dits moyens de support (52) et dite(s) première(s) anode(s) (51) étant de préférence amovibles. De préférence, lesdites premières anodes (51) sont disposées le long d'un cercle (C1) concentrique par rapport au centre de la surface du fond du réservoir et, de préférence, le diamètre dudit cercle (C1) est de 40 à 75% de celui de la surface du fond (2) du réservoir.
