Abstract of the Disclosure Disclosed is a method of testing a non-consumable electrode for serviceability, comprising striking an electric arc in a plasma-forming mixture including dis- sociating carbon-containing compounds between electrodes, one of which being a tested electrode, maintaining arc burning, breaking the arc and visual inspection of the state of the operating surface of the active insert of the tested electrode, evaluated in the course of which is the extent of coating thereof with a layer of carbon having deposited thereon from the dissociating carbon- containing compounds of the plasma-forming mixture during arc burning, and assessment of electrode ser- viceability according to the results of visual inspec- tion, the electrode being considered serviceable if the operating surface of its active insert is entirely covered with the layer of carbon.
