CA 2412206

A method for detecting or quantifying the presence of a toxic molecule in a sample, comprising obtaining stabilised thylakoids membranes, wherein the membranes are stabilised with a ratio chlorophyll: liposomes of at least 10:1 and with PVP, and assessing the photosynthetic efficiency of the thylakoid membranes in the presence of said sample, whereby said molecule is detected when said photosynthetic efficiency is measurably lower in the presence versus in the absence of said sample. The present invention also comprises kits using the stabilised thylakoid membranes for detecting and/or quantifying the molecule in a fluid.
