A method of testing a filler material to be used in an arc welding process, the method comprising the steps of providing first and second test plates, the first test plate having a generally planar surface, and the second test plate having opposed, parallel, generally planar surfaces and a beveled edge forming a generally planar beveled surface extending at an angle from one of the opposed surfaces and forming a generally planar land which extends between the beveled surface and the other of the opposed surfaces and which extends generally perpendicular to the opposed surfaces, placing the land in abutment with the first plate surface, providing a restraining fillet weld at the junction of the other surface of the second plate and the first plate surface, and using the filler material to provide a test fillet weld at the junction of the beveled surface and the first plate surface.
Méthode pour mettre à l'essai un matériau d'apport pour utilisation dans un procédé de soudage à l'arc, cette méthode faisant appel à l'utilisation d'une première et d'une deuxième plaque d'essai, la première plaque présentant une surface pratiquement plate, et la deuxième plaque présentant des surfaces opposées pratiquement plates et parallèles avec un bord biseauté formant une surface pratiquement plate et à angle par rapport à une des surfaces opposées et formant une plage relativement plate allant de la surface biseautée à l'autre des surfaces opposées, et qui se prolonge presque à la perpendiculaire des surfaces opposées, mettant ainsi la plage en aboutement avec la surface de la première plaque; une soudure d'angle est formée à la jonction avec l'autre surface de la deuxième plaque et la surface de la première plaque; le matériau d'apport est utilisé pour réaliser une soudure d'angle d'essai à la jonction de la surface biseautée et de la surface de la première plaque.
