A method for laser engraving a three-dimensional image into a workpiece (100) according to color shades found in an original piece of artwork. The original piece of artwork is separated into a plurality of illustrations with each illustration corresponding to a particular layer of material to be removed from the workpiece in accordance with a selected color shade found in the original artwork. The illustrations are sequentially read by laser system program software which translates the lines on each illustration into signals corresponding to laser paths. The signals are received by the laser system control assembly for directing the laser beam along the workpiece in a layer-by-layer relationship corresponding to the sequentially read illustrations. The use of the plurality of illustrations allows for a layer-by-layer removal of material in the workpiece in correspondence with the various color shades.
L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de graver au laser une image tridimensionnelle dans une pièce (100) en respectant les nuances de couleurs caractéristiques du motif d'origine. A cet effet, le motif d'origine est séparé en une pluralité d'illustrations, chaque illustration correspondant à une couche spécifique de matière à enlever de la pièce, conformément à une nuance de couleur sélectionnée du motif d'origine. Les illustrations sont lues séquentiellement par un logiciel de programmation de système laser, qui traduit les lignes de chaque illustration en signaux correspondant aux trajets laser. Les signaux sont reçus par l'ensemble de commande du faisceau laser afin de diriger le faisceau laser sur la pièce, selon un mode couche par couche correspondant aux illustrations lues séquentiellement. En utilisant ces différentes illustrations, on peut enlever, couche par couche, de la matière de la pièce, conformément aux diverses nuances de couleur.
