ABSTRACT In order to transmit digitized stereophonic audio signals over interference affected channels, particularly radio channels, transmission errors are detected and possibly corrected or masked by the decoder. The computing power required for the error correction and error concealment, respectively, is provided substantially by the encoder. The result of these computations is submitted to the decoder as additional information in coded form, with the decoder utilizing the transmitted computation result for error correction or error concealment, respectively.
