ABSTRACT Processes for treating air in order to decompose or remove foreign matter contained in the air or to add a functional agent to the air, by use of rotatable circular plates stacked in a multi-layered form. Rotation of the circular plates causes thin air layers between the circular plates to exhibit a self-blowing function, whereby an air-blowing function is added and the treatment of air by the air-treating function of the plate surfaces is promoted. It is therefore possible to cause separation of laminar Plow, a promoted turbulence of boundary layers near the plate surfaces due to increased velocity of air relative to the circular plates, propagating stall, etc. in the thin air layers. These phenomena enable marked activation of the contact between air flow and catalyst, adsorbent or the like which is supported on, infiltrated in or otherwise possessed by the multiplicity of circular plates according to the intended use of the multi-stacked plate assembly. Thus, the air treatment performance is improved markedly. Further, the rotation of the circular plates increases the distance of contact with air and causes the air to flow along a curved line resembling a logarithmic spiral relative to the circular plate, so that even where the spacing between the circular plates is nonuniform, there is little possibility of a steady drift being developed with respect to the circumferential direction, and the entire surface area of each circular plate can be utilized effectively. This also contributes to an enhanced air-treating function and an improved performance. Moreover, even where the spacing between the rotatable circular plates stacked in multi-layered form is reduced in order to increase the area of contact between air and the functional agent, an attendant increase in the self-blowing function due to the rotation of the circular plates ensures a marked promotion of the air-treating function, without any reduction in the flow rate of air through the air-treating assembly.
