Method of treating a biomass containing a fibrous structure and polysaccharides. According to the method the biomass is subjected to extractive treatment at which it is heated in aqueous phase at an absolute pressure of over 0.6 MPa and a temperature of at least 1600C for separating polysaccharides from the mass. According to the invention, the pH of the biomass which is subjected to the extractive treatment is not actively lowered during the extraction and after the treatment the pressure is controllably reduced so as not to decompose the fibrous structure of the biomass. The polysaccharides separated from the mass are recovered as a first fraction, the fibrous structure of the biomass as a second fraction and at least one of the fractions is subjected to further processing. By means of the invention it is possible to isolate from the starting materials valuable compounds and groups of compounds by a method suitable for use on an industrial scale.

La présente invention concerne un procédé pour traiter une biomasse contenant une structure fibreuse et des polysaccharides. Selon le procédé de l'invention, on soumet la biomasse à un traitement extractif consistant à la chauffer en phase aqueuse à une température d'au moins 160°C sous une pression absolue supérieure à 0,6 MPa, de façon à extraire de la masse les polysaccharides. En l'occurrence, le traitement extractif ne provoque pas de baisse du pH de la biomasse. En outre, après traitement, on fait baisser de façon contrôlée la pression de façon à ne pas décomposer la structure fibreuse de la biomasse. Les polysaccharides extraits de la masse sont récupérés sous forme d'une première fraction, la structure de la biomasse étant récupérée sous forme d'une seconde fraction, et l'une au moins des fractions subit un traitement ultérieur. L'invention permet ainsi d'isoler dans les matières de départ des composés et des groupes de composés présentant un intérêt économiques, et ce, en un procédé applicable à échelle industrielle.
