A method of treating a mammalian patient suffering from a chronic progressive vascular disease (CPVD) characterized by scarring and/or fibrosis to halt the progress of the disease and cause resolution of already-formed scarring or fibrotic lesions. The method consists of the administration to the patient of a pharmaceutical composition containing an effective amount of pentosan polysulfate (PPS) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. The oral route of administration is preferred, with total daily dosage of PPS or PPS salt ranging from about 50 to 1200 mg per day.

Méthode de traitement d'un mammifère souffrant d'une maladie vasculaire évolutive chronique (CPVD) caractérisée par des cicatrices et/ou une fibrose, qui vise à enrayer la progression de la maladie et à favoriser la résolution des lésions cicatrisantes ou fibreuses existantes. La méthode consiste à administrer au patient une composition pharmaceutique contenant une dose efficace de polysulfate de pentosane (PPS) ou d'un sel de celui-ci qui soit acceptable sur le plan pharmaceutique. La substance est administrée de préférence par voie orale, à raison d'une dose quotidienne maximale d'environ 50 à 1200 mg par jour de PPS ou de sel de PPS.
