The present invention involves a method and a system for using electrical stimulation and/or chemical stimulation to treat an affective disorder, such as depression. More particularly, the method comprises surgically implanting an electrical stimulation lead and/or catheter that is in communication with a predetermined site which is coupled to a signal generator and/or infusion pump that release either an electrical signal and/or a pharmaceutical resulting in stimulation of the predetermined site thereby treating the mood and/or anxiety.
L'invention concerne une méthode et un système d'utilisation de la stimulation électrique et/ou chimique afin de traiter un trouble de l'humeur, tel que la dépression. Plus précisément, la méthode consiste à implanter de manière chirurgicale une dérivation et/ou un cathéter de stimulation électrique en communication avec un site prédéterminé couplé à une génératrice de signaux et/ou une pompe à perfusion libérant un signal électrique et/ou un agent pharmaceutique, une stimulation du site prédéterminé étant obtenue et, par conséquent, l'humeur et/ou l'anxiété étant traitée.
