2065862 9105877 PCTABS00005 There is described a method for treating delimed and bated hides, i.e. pelts. According to the inventive method, the pelts are brought to a suitable mineral tanning state and then tanned with mineral salts. The inventive treatment process corresponds to the conventional processes of pickling, tanning and basifying. The inventive method includes the treatment of pelts with weakly acid treatment liquids while supplying carbon dioxide and additions of tanning mineral substances subsequent to pretreatment, without or with the addition of solely a small amount of liquid, wherein the quantity of treatment liquid is supplemented after a predetermined treatment time.
