ABSTRACT The invention relates to a method of treatment of hypertension and toxemia of pregnancy in vertebrates. It comprises the ad- ministration of manganese-containing pharmaceutical prepara- tions in appropriate ratios with tryptophan to lower the blood pressure. These are given in amounts appropriate to the indi- vidual subject in a schedule of treatment which varies in amount, frequency and the said ratios, as it produces a cumu- lative effect, reflecting the changing blood pressure of that affected individual adjusting back to within the normal range of blood pressure.
