A method of combatting bacterial infections, including Escherichia coli and Salmonella infections, in immature birds by adminstering to said immature bird a T-cell growth factor comprising Interleuikin-2 (IL,2) in an amount effective to combat bacterial infections in immature birds is disclosed. The method is preferably carried out on chickens on about the eighteenth day of incubation.
