ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Mica filler is treated to provide a macroscopically uniform dispersal of chlorinated hydrocarbon as a coating throughout and a microspically higher level of chlorine at the edges of mica flakes in the filler. Such filler is useful in reinforcement in melt forming resins, such as, polypropy- lene. The treatment is effected by enveloping the mica flakes in a fluid medium that comprises chlorinated hydro- carbon having about 50 to 75% by weight chlorine and a molecular weight of about 500 to 3000 in a liquid dispersant therefor. The mica flakes then are dried at a temperature above about25°C..
