METHOD OF TREATING PLASTICS-CONTAINING DISPOSABLE PRODUCTS AFTER USE, AND PRODUCT OF ENHANCED COMPOSTABILITY MADE THEREBY Abstract of the Disclosure A method of enhancing the compostability of waste products (i.e., products which have been discarded after use) containing one or more synthetic organic polymers is disclosed. Waste products, e.g., a mass of used diapers containing a propylene polymer material, are exposed to high-energy ionizing radiation in an oxidizing atmosphere such as air, whereby the synthetic polymer(s) therein are oxidatively degraded. The waste product containing the radiation-degraded polymer(s) then is exposed to microoganism attack in the presence of moisture and an oxygen-containing gas to produce a useful compost humus.
