A method of facilitating the clearance of retained pulmonary secretions in a subject using lantibiotics is disclosed. The method comprises administering to the lungs of the subject an effective amount of a lantibiotic. The lantibiotic is preferably administered by topically applying it to the respiratory epithelia, such as by generating an aerosol thereof which is then inhaled by the subject. A preferred lantibiotic for carrying out the present invention is duramycin. The method may be used in treating disorders such as cystic fibrosis, chronic bronchitis, and asthma. Also disclosed is a method of combatting tuberculosis comprising administering a lantibiotic to a subject in need of such treatment.
Procédé destiné à faciliter l'élimination d'une rétention de sécrétions pulmonaires retenues chez un sujet sous lantibiotiques. Ce procédé comprend l'administration dans les poumons du sujet d'une dose efficace d'un lantibiotique. Le lantibiotique est de préférence administré localement par application sur l'épithélium respiratoire, par exemple sous la forme d'un aérosol inhalé par le sujet. On utilise de préférence la duramycine comme lantibiotique pour la mise en oeuvre de l'invention. Le procédé peut servir à traiter des maladies telles que la mucoviscidose, la bronchite chronique ou l'asthme. Un procédé pour lutter contre la tuberculose, comportant l'administration d'un lantibiotique à un sujet nécessitant un tel traitement, est également décrit.
