Title of the Invention METHOD OF TREATING WOODY MATERIAL AND TREATED WOODY MATERIAL Abstract of the Disclosure A method of treating a woody material which comprises treating a woody material with a treating agent composed of a mixture or reaction product of a polymeric compound and/or a compound having the ability to form a polymeric compound and a phosphonic acid compound. In an alternative embodi- ment, the treating agent is composed of (1) a mixture or reaction product of a polymeric compound and/or a compound having the ability to form a polymeric compound and a phos- phonic acid compound and (2) at least one member selected from the group consisting of silicon-containing inorganic compounds, magnesium-containing inorganic compounds, calcium- containing inorganic compounds, penetrants, film crack preventing agents, formaldehyde-capturing agents, acid catalysts, antifoamers, mold releasing agents and other fire retardants.
