Description

The invention described herein provides an unidirectional 2-D gel electrophoresis technology for high-resolution separation, high-throughput display, and parallel comparison of multiple protein samples. The system still uses current IEF systems for first-dimensional separation. The innovative second-dimensional separation system includes an IPG strip cutter, a gel loading device, and a high-capacity SDS- PAGE apparatus. Generating uniformly distributed sharp protein bands rather than irregularly distributed spots seen on conventional 2-D gels, this system allows for large quantitative and qualitative proteomics data sets without further assistance from computer and additional software.
