The invention provides a method of producing .alpha.-tocopherol and .alpha.- tocopheryl esters and a method of producing vitamin A or .beta.-carotene. The methods comprise using a biological system to produce farnesol or geranylgeraniol. Then, the farnesol or geranylgeraniol is chemically converted into .alpha.-tocopherol, an .alpha.-tocopheryl ester, vitamin A or .beta. carotene.

L'invention porte sur un procédé de production d'.alpha.-tocophérol et d'esters .alpha.-tocophérol et sur un procédé de production de vitamine A ou de .beta.-carotène. Ces procédés consistent à utiliser un système biologique pour produire le farnesol ou le géranylgéraniol. Le farnesol et le géranylgéraniol sont ensuite convertis chimiquement en .alpha.-tocophérol, en un ester .alpha.-tocophérol, en vitamine A ou en .beta.-carotène.
