Abstract of the Disclosure In a method of manufacturing a tube coil useful as a heat exchanger, wherein a plurality of tubes, guided in parallel and slightly spaced, are wound onto a core support, the tubes are wound at a pitch angle to the radial plane of the core support, and the pitch angle is reversed relative to said radial plane at an odd number of angularly spaced positions around the coil, such that the separate tubes of a subsequent winding turn can be positioned in the gaps between adjacent tubes of the preceding winding turn at those posi- tions. The core support has a polygonal e.g. three- or five-sided cross section and the pitch angle is reversed at the polygon corners of the core support. The tubes are guided in parallel by means of a guide comb, which is displaceable in the axial direction of the coil. Reversal of the winding direction is accomplished by reversing of the displacement direction of the guide comb, and the tubes are braked by means of the guide comb.
