1 The invention relates to the determination of liberation and gravity separability in the fine particle size range by elutriation of narrowly screened size fractions in a centrifugal field using cyclonic devices. With this method it is possible to establish separation and grade/recovery curves for the separated particle size classes and thus indications of mineral liberation. For simple (e.g. binary) systems and known densities of the pure compounds it may be possible to construct these curves without using chemical assays if extremely narrow size classes are used and the separation system is well calibrated. The method is most suitable for applications that involve the use of little sample material and fast analysis.
