A method for increasing the flocculation of solid of a paper mill slurry in a paper making system which comprises the steps of adding to a paper mill slurry from about 0.003 to about 1.0 % by weight based on fiber in the slurry of a water soluble phenolic resin. And a nonionic acrylamide polymer flocculant is then added to the slurry in the amount of from about 0.003 to about 0.5 % by weight based on fiber in the slurry. The flocculation of solid components of the paper mill slurry is increased.
