In a screening method for identifying a substance for the treatment of bone disorders that are associated with reduced bone mass, the substance is tested for its ability to upregulate the expression of Fra-1 or to modulate the exression of a Fra-1 target gene in osteoblasts, said upregulation or modulation resulting in an increased bone formation in vivo. The identified osteoinductive compounds and DNA molecules encoding biologically active Fra-1 molecules can be used for the therapy of bone disorders characterized by a circumscribed or systemic reduction of bone mass.

Dans un procédé de dépistage servant à identifier une substance pour le traitement de troubles au niveau des os, associés à une masse osseuse réduite, la substance est testée dans le but de connaître ses capacités à réguler à la hausse l'expression de Fra-1 ou à moduler l'expression d'un gène cible Fra-1 dans des ostéoblastes. Ladite régulation ou modulation induit une ostéoformation accrue in vivo. Les composés ostéo-inductifs et les molécules d'ADN codant des molécules Fra-1 biologiquement actives identifiés peuvent être utilisés pour le traitement de troubles au niveau des os, caractérisés par une réduction circonscrite et systémique de la masse osseuse.
